I am Barbara Nesby, a Bronx, NY native deeply committed to community service. With three adult children and eight grandchildren, family has always been central to my life.
In 1989, I began my Social Work career after graduating from New York University. I started working with adolescent girls in Yonkers and soon joined the Visiting Nurse Service (VNS), focusing on youth and families in the Mental Health Department to prevent psychiatric hospitalization.
At VNS, I progressed to become a Program Coordinator, overseeing staff assisting formerly homeless families in their transition to permanent housing. I also served as Supervisor for the Intensive Case Management Program, supporting individuals facing severe challenges, including disabilities, substance abuse, and mental health issues.
My journey continued at NYC Health and Hospitals, where I conducted home visits, initially with seniors and later with psychiatric adolescents and adults. I am an ordained Elder and founded "Power in the Park" to serve the community with essential resources. Currently, I am the Treasurer for "No Women Left Behind," dedicated to supporting our community members in times of need.
Throughout my journey, my love for people and commitment to making a positive impact have remained unwavering.
